This Cape petrel (Daption capense) followed the ferry that connects the North Island to the South Island of New Zealand crossing the Cook Strait. Several individuals of Cape Petrel followed the ferry flying in the brewed waters produced by the boat, giving a turquoise blue color to the water. I was then on the deck of the boat and therefore tried to compose a graphic photograph with the sea of intense blue color and this very contrasting bird flying waves in waves. This image was taken in September 2018 in the Cook strait located between the North Island and the South Island of New Zealand. This Cape petrel (Daption capense) followed the ferry that connects the North Island to the South Island of New Zealand crossing the Cook Strait. When we think about pollination, we usually think of insects. But in some places like New Zealand, birds play a big part in the pollination of some plant species. Here, Tui (Prosthemadera novaeseelandiae) feeds on the nectar of a harakeke flower. Thus, the pollen of the flower clings to its feathers and will then fall into other flowers. I realized this image near a small lake where a Tui was feeding and didn’t care about my presence, a magical moment.
