Commemorative plaque on the Chêne de La Résistance - Forêt de Tronçais. Originally named "Chêne Maréchal Pétain", the plaque was removed and renamed "Chêne Gabriel Peri... French patriot shot by the Nazis". Today, this remarkable, centuries-old tree is officially the "Chêne de la Résistance". Rumors that the tree was "machine-gunned" at the Liberation appear to be untrue; the marks visible on the trunk are from the claws of loppers. Circumference: 3.68 m; Height: 41 m; Birth date: 1640. The Tronçais forest is considered one of the most beautiful oak forests in Europe. It was awarded the Forêt d'Exception label in 2018. This label is a guarantee of excellence - Allier - France
