Thin, spindly legs and large webbed feet are used to dig the burrows in the coastal Namib Desert. Webbed feet also aids in running over fine sand. Large, bulb-like dark brown and red eyes with vertical pupils, lack eyelids but are covered with a transparent scale, or spectacle, which is cleaned by periodic licking.
