Fishermen landing giant Bluefin tuna off Italie ; Ancestral fishing of the tuna in the Mediterranean Sea, the "mattanza" is always practised on some islands of Italy. Endowed with a unique and spectacular character, this fishing consists in capturing the tunas of the Atlantic Ocean on the trajectory leading to their reproduction. To intercept them, the men install offshore the "tonnara", a labyrinth of nets. Once, trapped, the fishermen surround the tunas of their boats and proceed to their killing. The mattanza, almost disappeared from the Mediterranean Basin.
