At the Maha Kumbh Mela, the sadhus are more than just participants; they are the spiritual heart of the festival. Draped in simple robes, with bodies marked by sacred ash and intense devotion, these ascetics symbolize the deep-rooted traditions of Hinduism. They have renounced worldly pleasures, dedicating their lives to seeking spiritual truth. As the crowds gather and the rituals unfold, the sadhus lead the way, guiding pilgrims with their example of sacrifice, humility, and unwavering faith. A farewell from those who are leaving to those who are staying. The winterers have just spent 13 months at Concordia, and it's time for them to go home. Their departure from the station is a heartbreaker for everyone. Note: this photo was taken during the 2020-2021 summer campaign, the first summer campaign to be affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.
