August 27, 2019 - The core of the Milky Way in Sagittarius low in the south over the Frenchman River valley at Grasslands National Park, Saskatchewan, Canada. This is from the 76 Ranch Corral site. Grasslands is a Dark Sky Preserve. . . The frame takes in the open star clusters M6 and M7 just above the horizon in Scorpius, on up through the Sagittarius Star Cloud and galactic core, then up past the red nebulas M8 and M20, the Small Sagittarius Starcloud M24 flanked by the clusters M23 and M25, then the nebulas M17 and M16 at top in Serpens. The globular cluster M55 is visible at far left. . . Jupiter is bright at right above reddish Antares, Saturn is dimmer at left, to the left of the globular cluster M22.

The summer southern Milky Way over Reesor Lake in Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park, a Dark Sky Preserve. Only July 28/29, 2017, just after moonset with Sagittarius in the southwest, and Saturn just about to go behind the treeline. Wind rippled the water and prevented a reflection of stars and the Milky Way. Some airglow tints the sky.

A panorama of the western sky in deep twilight at Reesor Lake in the Cypress Hills of southeast Alberta, in the Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park, a Dark Sky Preserve. The sky is still deep blue with twilight and the sky to the northwest bright with the last of the sunset glow. The bright object at left to the southwest is the 5-day-old waxing crescent Moon, overexposed. Jupiter is just below the Moon. Spica is below and to the left of the moon. Arcturus is the bright star at upper left. The Big Dipper is at upper right, distorted slightly due to the equirectangular map projection of the panorama stitching. Polaris is at upper right. . .
