France

Former forester's house converted into a bat lodge - Forêt de Tronçais - Allier. This house in the middle of the forest has been deserted and disused for several years. Following acts of vandalism, the ONF decided to wall off the various openings and, as part of Natura 2000 actions, to leave small openings so that the bats that have long since taken up residence here can find peace and quiet. The Tronçais forest is considered one of the most beautiful oak forests in Europe. It was awarded the Forêt d'Exception label in 2018. This label is a guarantee of excellence in France.

France

Giant sequoia on the Rond de Morat in the Forêt de Tronçais - Allier. From the end of the 19th century, forest crossroads or "ronds" became part of the history of the Forêt de Tronçais. They were named after local toponyms, but also to pay tribute to the foresters who had left their mark on its history. And in those days, to pay tribute to someone, trees were planted. This is how the foresters created the "ronds", planting different species of conifers around their edges to differentiate them from the rest of the forest. The Tronçais forest is considered one of the most beautiful oak forests in Europe. It was awarded the Forêt d'Exception label in 2018. This label is a guarantee of excellence. France

Sign in winter informing of the location of the remarkable Stebbing Oak in the Forêt de Tronçais - Allier. The Stebbing I oak was christened in 1951, but fell in a storm a few years later. Considered the most beautiful tree in the forest, Chêne Stebbing II is also one of the most visited. To avoid the repeated trampling of visitors, which contributes to soil compaction and asphyxiates the small surface roots, then exposes the root system, in 2020 the Stebbing II oak was given a protective belt, a kind of casket specially designed to enhance its value. Circumference: 5.90 m; height: 36 m; age: around 390 years. The Tronçais forest is considered one of the finest oak forests in Europe. It was awarded the Forêt d'Exception label in 2018. This label is a guarantee of excellence - Allier - France
