One of the advantages of studying zebrafish is the ease with which specific gene products can be added to or eliminated from the embryo by microinjection. La dendrochronologie permet, entre autres, de reconstituer les changements climatiques passes dans un environnement donne a partir de l’etude des cernes de croissance des arbres. De meme, elle aide a anticiper les effets des changements climatiques prevus sur la croissance des arbres dans un système forestier, et donc a plus large echelle sur des formations vegetales et leur fonctionnement ecologique. Michel Metzger, OPAR, analyse les données enregistrées par le spectromètre à transformée de Fourier installé sur le toit de l’observatoire atmosphérique du Maïdo. Cet instrument effectue des mesures des profils de constituants chimiques de la stratosphère à partir de la lumière solaire absorbée par l'atmosphère. L'instrument appartient à l'IASB (Institut d'Aéronomie Spatiale de Belgique). De nombreux instruments de mesure placés sur le toit de l'observatoire permettent en plus d'analyser les concentrations de gaz à effet de serre, d'ozone et de monoxyde de carbone dans l'air ambiant. L'observatoire atmosphérique du Maïdo à La Réunion (l'un des 3 sites de mesure de l'OPAR (Observatoire de Physique de l'Atmosphère de La Réunion), est installé depuis octobre 2012 sur le Piton Maïdo à 2200 mètres d'altitude. Ce laboratoire est doté d'une instrumentation de télédétection active et passive, afin de réaliser sur le long terme des mesure de grande qualité des profils verticaux de nombreuses variables climatiques. Il permet de surveiller les paramètres de l'atmosphère et du climat dans un contexte de changement climatique accéléré, et bénéficie d'une situation uique dans l'hémisphère Sud tropical, où les observations sont extrêmement peu nombreuses.
