Aitutaki. Cook Island. Polynesia. South Pacific Ocean. Beach in One Foot Island. One Foot Island is asmall island in the district of Aitutaki of the Cook Islands in Australia. It is also known as Tapuaetai and is one of 22 islands of the atoll. You can only reach this island via a short boat trip from the main island. It is said that One Foot Island gives the visitors the best view of the Aitutaki lagoon. It was awarded ôAustralias Leading Beachî at the World Travel Awards held in Sydney in June 2008. The island is uninhabited, but you can buy small things at the local shop. The beaches of OneFoot Island are white, and the water is crystal clear. This is not only a paradise for divers and snorkelers but also for those wanting to enjoy the beach and the sand. Climate: Since the islands are South of the equator, the seasons are opposite to those of Europe and North America. The cooler, drier season is from April to November and the warmer, more humid season is from December to March. The average temperature is 27 Celsius. Regularly listed as one of the most romantic places on Earth, and the second-most visited island in the Cooks, Aitutaki is famous for its impossibly crystal-clear, turquoise water of its central lagoon, tiny motus (islets) and pristine, palm-shaded beaches. Inland, Aitukati's rolling hills are a patchwork of banana plantations and coconut groves. 220 kilometres from Rarotonga and easily accessible by air, flying over Aitutaki is breathtaking. The immense, turquoise lagoon appears to float on the deeper blue of the Pacific, and is speckled with 15 uninhabited motus and brightly coloured corals just below the shimmering liquid surface. this is the ultimate blue lagoon. A leisurely walk to the summit of Aitutaki's highest peak, Maungapu, might only reach an elevation of a little over 120 metres, but it delivers sweeping views that are sure to leave you breathless. Another popular spot is the beautiful One Foot Island, where the TV show Survivor w

Aitutaki. Cook Island. Polynesia. South Pacific Ocean. Some of the beaches with palm tres. Aitutaki (Aye-too-tah-ki) is an island in the Southern Cook Islands a 45 minute flight from the capital island of Rarotonga. Aitutaki lagoon and its islands are breathtakingly beautiful. The classic picture postcard of small palm tree fringed tropical island, with shallow, warm turquoise waters, corals, tropical fish and blue skies is taken here. The lagoon is large, taking about an hour in a boat to cross it. Tourism facilities are well developed, but are still low key enough not to intrude on the nature of the island. The larger island is split into different villages, Vaipae & Tau'tu are the largest and are located on the south east side of the island, Arutanga is often referred to as town and is on the south west side of the island. Arutanga has a center area for shopping, and the Telecom Office (also the Post Office), the Westpac Bank and the Bank of the Cook Islands are located here. Here you will also find the Blue Nun and Wharf. Amuri is a general term for the north end of the island which contains most of the tourist accommodations and less population. The other villages on the island are Uriea, Rearea, Rama, Vaipeka and Nikaupara.

The Milky Way in the region of the Galactic Centre in Sagittarius, photographed with it high in the sky from Australia. The actual centre of the Galaxy lies near centre of the frame. The dark clouds that form the Dark Horse and the Pipe Nebula are at right. The clusters Messier 6 and Messier 7 are at bottom, with M7 lost in the star clouds of the Milky Way. The Lagoon and Trifid Nebulas, M8 and M20, are at top. Saturn is the bright star at top right. The Dark Horse region of dark dust is at right, with the darkest part below being the Pipe Nebula, B78. The small Snake Nebula, B72, is at right. This is a stack of 4 x 2-minute exposures at f/2.8 with the Rokinon 85mm lens, and filter-modified Canon 5D MkII at ISO 2500. Taken from Tibuc Gardens Cottage near Coonabarabran, Australia. The image could be turned 90° CCW to better resemble its orientation in the sky in which it was photographed in the southern hemisphere, This orientation matches the view in the northern hemisphere. Some haze in one of the frames added the natural star glows.

The Horsehead Nebula, B33, below the Belt of Orion and the star Alnitak, along with the bright Flame Nebula, NGC 2024, to the left of Alnitak. Many other bright reflection nebulas populate the field, such as NGC 2023 just left of the Horsehead itself. The quintuple star system Sigma Orionis is right of the Horsehead. The dark Horsehead is set against the bright streak of the emission nebula IC 434. This is a stack of 10 x 4 minute exposures with the Celestron Rowe-Ackerman Schmidt Astrograph, a 620mm focal length f/2.2 astrograph in hand for review, and using the filter-modified Canon 5D MkII at ISO 400. Autoguided on the Mach 1 mount. Taken from New Mexico, Nov 28, 2014.

A mosaic of the region around the Small Sagittarius Starcloud and Dark Horse dark nebula complex. The field takes in the Milky Way from the Lagoon Nebula at bottom to the Eagle Nebula at top left. In between from top to bottom are the Swan Nebula (M17), and the Small Sagittarius Starcloud (M24). Flanking the bright M24 starcloud are the large open clusters M23 (right) and M25 (left). At bottom left is the M22 globular star cluster. The prominent dark nebula at right is the large Pipe Nebula (B78) with the small Snake Nebula (B72) above it. The whole complex is visible to the naked eye as the Dark Horse. This is a mosaic of 4 panels, each a stack of 5 x 3 minute exposures with the 135mm lens at f/2.8, and with the filter-modified Canon 5D Mark II at ISO 1600 tracking the sky on the iOptron SkyTracker, with no guidind. Images were stacked and stitched in Photoshop CC. Taken from the Four Bar Cottages near Portal Arizona, May 4/5, 2014.

The centre of the galaxy area of the Milky Way toward Sagittarius and Scorpius, with the Sagittarius Starcloud right of centre, and the Lagoon Nebula (M8) left of centre. The Cat's Paw Nebula (NGC 6334) in Scorpius is at upper right, the Swan Nebula (M17) and Eagle Nebula (M16) are at lower left. To the right of them is the Small Sagittarius Starcloud (M24). At the very top is the Snake Nebula (B72). The main mass of dark nebula is the Pipe Nebula (B78). Above M24 at left is the open cluster M23 while below the M24 star cloud is the cluster M25. The globular M22 is at the bottom edge. At right of frame are the open clusters M6 (in the dark area of the Milky Way) and M7 (in the bright starcloud). I took this at about 3 am local time, Monday, March 31 from the Warrumbungles Motel grounds near Coonabarabran, NSW, Australia at the OzSky Star Safari 2014. This is a stack of 4 x 4 minute exposures at f/2.8 with the Sigma 50mm lens on the Canon 60Da at ISO 800. The camera was tracking the sky using the iOptron SkyTracker. I've oriented it horizontally as that's the way the camera was oriented to frame the area as it was rising in the east in the sky. However, from northern latitudes, this area would be framed vertically with the right side of the image in Scorpius (the area farthest south in the Milky Way) at bottom.
