Rond de Tronçais with picnic table in Forêt de Tronçais - Allier. From the end of the 19th century, forest crossroads or "ronds" became part of the history of the Forêt de Tronçais. They were named after local toponyms, but also to pay tribute to the foresters who had left their mark on its history. And in those days, to pay tribute to someone, trees were planted. This is how the foresters created the "ronds", planting different species of conifers around their edges to differentiate them from the rest of the forest. The Tronçais forest is considered to be one of the most beautiful oak forests in Europe. It was awarded the Forêt d'Exception label in 2018. This label is a guarantee of excellence. France

Each mark on the trees corresponds to an action to be taken by the foresters - Forêt de Tronçais. When a forest is subject to a sustainable management plan, as is the case at Forêt de Tronçais, you can see marks generally made with paint and at man's height to identify which trees are to be cut or, on the contrary, which are to be preserved. Each of these marks is a forest language. The Tronçais forest is considered one of the most beautiful oak forests in Europe. It was awarded the Forêt d'Exception label in 2018. Mark of a red belt on an Objective oak, parent of the next generation - Forêt de Tronçais. The belt can be yellow or red. In the forest, it designates the so-called "objective" trees, which are, in a way, the "elite" trees that the forester will take particular care of throughout the life of the plot concerned. These trees will be the parents of the next generation. The Tronçais forest is considered to be one of the most beautiful oak forests in Europe. It was awarded the Forêt d'Exception label in 2018. Close-up of the regenerating bark of a Giant Sequoia in the Forêt de Tronçais - Allier. The Giant Sequoia owes its exceptional longevity to its great size and its ability to regenerate, producing new bark every year. This bark makes it remarkably resistant to fire. A giant sequoia set on fire can take weeks to burn down. The tree can also heal deep wounds by reconstituting its bark. Its high tannin content protects it from insects and fungi. The Tronçais forest is considered one of the most beautiful oak forests in Europe. It was awarded the Forêt d'Exception label in 2018. This label is a guarantee of excellence. France

Small winter gatehouse on the pond causeway, opposite the old Tronçais forges in the heart of the forest - Allier. Built in 1788 - 1789 on the pond causeway, the Water Master's gatehouse housed the person who controlled and regulated the water inflows. This small building, unique in the region, stands on the overhang separating the two small feed canals (coursiers) of the former forges. The 18-hectare Etang de Tronçais is located in the heart of the Forêt de Tronçais. It was created in 1789 by Lorraine industrialist Nicolas Rambourg, who decided to establish his forges and furnaces here. The site provided him with the three elements essential to his business: iron ore, wood for heating, and water for mechanical power. Listed in the inventory of sites since February 1, 1934, it now belongs to the public domain. The Tronçais forest is considered to be one of the finest oak forests in Europe. The Fontaine de Viljot in the heart of the Tronçais forest reveals one of its legends - Allier. Clear and abundant, it is by far the most beautiful fountain in the forest. It's very accessible, and very well laid out by the Eaux et Forêts, who, in 1900, inscribed the cement coping with an inscription dedicating the fountain to Velleda. One legend has it that the fountain springs from the site of a sunken city. On Christmas Eve, during midnight mass, when you lean over the water, you can hear the distant echo of the bells of the buried church. Young girls hoping to marry are invited to throw a pin into the fountain. If the pin lands on its tip in the bottom of the fountain, then the heart of the man they love is "pricked", and they'll be married within the year. Nowadays, instead of a pin, they often toss a coin. The Tronçais forest is considered one of the most beautiful oak forests in Europe. It was awarded the Forêt d'Exception label in 2018. Base of the remarkable "Carré" Oak, nicknamed the Eiffel Tower for its parallelepiped shape - Forêt de Tronçais - Allier. The torso fiber of the Chêne Carré has shaped its trunk into a helix, and its square, parallelepiped-shaped base is reminiscent of the four pillars of the Eiffel Tower. It is one of the few very distinctive trees in the Tronçais forest. Four centuries old, it was listed in 1931. It is one of the forest's last three classified trees. It is surrounded by a ring of staves to protect its root system. The square rotoid structure echoes the singularities of its trunk. Circumference: 6.35 m; height: 30 m; date of birth: 1630.
