Steven Kovacs was born and raised in Canada and has had a fascination for the underwater world from a very young age. He bought his first underwater camera system in 2001 while diving around the cold, rich waters surrounding Vancouver Island. He moved to Florida shortly thereafter to pursue his quickly growing passion for underwater photography in a more tropical setting.
He has placed numerous times in International photographic competitions,including the prestigious Veolia Wildlife Photographer of the Year contest. He's also been published in numerous books and magazines, and his work has been displayed in numerous institutions.
His passion is macro photography, with a special emphasis on underwater behaviors. . His most recent obsession is blackwater photography, which entails drifting near the surface at night in very deep water to photograph rarely seen pelagic and deep water species that migrate to the surface under the cover of darkness.
