timber rattlesnakes, (Crotalus horridus), adult females and newborn young, Pennsylvania, gravid female timber rattlesnakes gather together at maternity sites and bask and give birth to live young. They stay with the young for a period of several weeks showing a degree of parental care. These groups tend to be somewhat related females.
