The famous Hat of Gendarme, near St Claude, Jura, France. Famous anticline of limestone and marl. This fold is a microplissement, formed in contact with the overlapping fault of the Molunes anticline on the syncline of Septmoncel. It is a disharmony of Cretaceous limestones (Upper Berriasian and Valanginian) related to the stuffing caused by the overlap. The detachment and the disharmony were favored by the presence of the soft marl of the lower Berriasien.
