Dune Miquelon-Langlade Isthmus Saint-Pierre and Miquelon ; Langlade and Miquelon islands are connected by a sandy isthmus 12Km, farm since the late 18th century. Legend has long wanted him to be formed on the wrecks of many ships from running aground on the shoals wanting to pass between the two islands. Since 1816, more than 650 shipwrecks have been identified. With work on the isthmus by the CNRS past ten years, we now have evidence that its formation is the result of a natural phenomenon. However, the accumulation of wrecks could well have accelerated the process. The erosion due to rising sea levels and increased frequency and severity of storms, increasingly threaten the dunes become a key channel of communication to the lives of people. Each year, the road must be redone, and revegetation, laying ganivelles, riprap gabions and other not seem to weigh very heavily against the threat of the ocean.
