A naturalist photographer specialising in macro photography, Tonči Maletić has been documenting wildlife for many years, in particular the insects, arachnids, amphibians and reptiles of Mediterranean Europe. His approach is based on scientific observation of living things, combined with rigorous photographic practice. Introduced to photography by a close friend, he has gradually refined his method by incorporating precise study protocols before each shot.
Unlike an opportunistic approach, his work is based on upstream planning, strict respect for ecosystems and a desire to minimise any form of stress or disturbance to the species observed. This demand for discretion and ethics is at the heart of his approach. His images are often taken in a natural environment, in the dry, rocky habitats typical of Liguria (Italy), and reveal details that are rarely visible to the naked eye.
