Stéphane Vitzthum is a French nature photographer and keen teacher based in Nancy, Lorraine. An associate professor of Life and Earth Sciences, he has always devoted his attention to nature, with a particular fondness for the small creatures that inhabit our forests, ponds and meadows. Specialising in macro photography, he reveals the discreet beauty of insects, amphibians, reptiles and wild orchids, which are often overlooked by the general public.
Driven by a strong ecological conscience, he uses his images as a tool to raise awareness of biodiversity. His photographs are regularly featured in exhibitions, conferences, educational slide shows and naturalist publications. With Michel Renner, he is the author of the book Amphibiens et Reptiles de Lorraine, the fruit of ten years of observation and more than 400 previously unpublished photographs.
Stéphane Vitzthum also works with nature conservation organisations and shares his passion during field trips and photo workshops. Through his lens, he conveys a clear message: protecting nature starts with learning how to look at it. His work combines scientific rigour, aesthetic sensitivity and a commitment to local biodiversity.
