Serge Lapouge is a passionate photographer and landscape gardener who has cultivated an intimate relationship with plants since childhood. Born in Asia, he developed a taste for exotic foliage and aromatic plants. When he was just 11 years old, he laid out his first garden in a wild, moss-covered valley populated by bamboos, nasturtiums and morning glories. This first “paradise” foreshadowed a lifetime devoted to creating places where nature and poetry meet.
He set up a landscaping business in the 1980s, and very early on adopted an ecological approach, which was marginal in the profession at the time. For him, it was obvious that every garden had to respect its environment and make the most of local resources. This bold approach quickly won over even those whose motivation was simply to see their plantations flourish.
In 1990, Serge Lapouge and Brigitte Lapouge-Déjean co-founded the Jardins de l'Albarède in the Dordogne. Developed from a wasteland, the site became a model of integrated landscaping, designed with natural materials and great attention paid to the balance of living things. His photographs are an extension of this sensitive and committed approach: each image bears witness to the harmony between human action and plant dynamics, between structure and spontaneity.
The author of numerous illustrated books, he now shares his experience and his vision of gardening that is respectful, joyful and deeply human.
