A photographer specialising in wildlife, conservation and African cultures, Roger de la Harpe documents wild Africa.
Roger de la Harpe is a South African photographer and author specialising in conservation, natural history and the indigenous cultures of the African continent. In collaboration with his wife Pat, also a photographer and writer, he carries out rigorous documentary work on ecosystems, endangered species and rural communities. The couple are based in South Africa, from where they regularly organise expeditions across the continent, with the aim of producing highly informative visual and editorial content.
Their photographs, published in a number of national and international press titles, are the result of a careful field approach, often involving long-term immersion. Roger et Pat de la Harpe's editorial output includes 28 photographic works, several of which focus on current ecological issues. Two titles in particular, In Search of the African Wild Dog and In Search of the African Lion, deal with the conservation dynamics of these endangered species, combining observational accounts, research data and documentary photography.
Their work aims to reconcile scientific rigour with visual impact, with a view to raising awareness. Roger de la Harpe's projects are designed to enhance the value of Africa's natural environments and to explore sustainable solutions for their preservation.
