Combining naturalist rigour with an artistic eye, Michel Rauch celebrates the biodiversity of the Northern Vosges.
Michel Rauch is a French nature photographer from the Vosges, where he still lives. Born in 1953, he has spent several decades exploring the landscapes, forests, meadows and wetlands of this region, which he knows intimately. A committed nature conservationist, he took part in the very first naturalist inventories of the Vosges du Nord Regional Nature Park back in 1975, helping to record birds, bats, butterflies, wild bees, dragonflies and rare plants.
Michel Rauch is driven by a dual passion: the scientific rigour of observation and the aesthetic quest for images. His photographs show a deep respect for living things. He favours a discreet, patient, unstaged approach, faithful to the naturalist's ethic. Whether capturing the silent flight of an owl, the transparency of a dragonfly on a leaf, or the low-angled light of a snow-covered undergrowth, each shot invites attentive, poetic contemplation of nature.
Through his exhibitions and publications, Michel Rauch seeks to raise awareness of the threats to biodiversity. His photography thus becomes a militant act, sensitive and humble, in defence of a fragile world that he has always observed with wonder.
