Jean-Michel Mille is a French professional photographer specialising in underwater photography. Born in 1959 on the Atlantic coast, he began diving and underwater photography in his teens. A self-taught photographer, he became French diving photography champion in 1990.
Now based in Nice, he is a member of the Scubapro Global Elite Team and works as a volunteer photographer for the Monaco Underwater Reserve (AMP). In 1998, he was made a Knight of the Monegasque Order of Cultural Merit for his commitment.
He works with the specialist press (nature, diving, science), as well as with scientific and archaeological institutions. He also produces advertising and fashion reports, while his personal work focuses on preserving the seabed.
His photographs - often taken while freediving or deep-sea diving - document underwater life, colonised shipwrecks and the fragility of marine ecosystems. He attaches great importance to passing on his work, and regularly gives talks to raise awareness of the need to protect the ocean environment.
