Frédéric Tournay, botanist and photographer, reveals the beauty of plants while working to preserve them.
Frédéric Tournay, born in 1971, has had a deep passion for the plant world since childhood. From an early age, he observed, cultivated and photographed plants, developing a sensitivity that would guide his professional career. With a degree in horticulture and the environment, he combines his skills as a botanist-gardener and photographer to explore the richness and beauty of the plant kingdom. Responsible for the collections of the Botanical Garden of the University of Strasbourg, one of the oldest in France, he oversees the management, preservation and promotion of more than 5,500 species from all over the world. His work supports scientific research, university teaching and public education.
At the same time, Frédéric Tournay is an accomplished photographer. His photographs capture the complexity and elegance of plants and natural landscapes. As well as their aesthetic value, his images are invaluable documents for research and the popularisation of science. He has contributed to numerous publications and projects, notably on the history of Alsatian gardens and the acclimatisation of palm trees in France.
Highly committed to environmental protection, he works to preserve biodiversity and raise awareness of ecological issues.
