Franco Banfi photographs underwater worlds with exacting standards, technical mastery and an eye for detail.

Franco Banfi is an internationally renowned Swiss photographer specializing in underwater and nature photography. An experienced diver since 1981, he turned to professional photography in 2000, after turning his passion into a profession. In 1992, he became World Underwater Photography Champion in Cuba, and has since won a string of international awards, including Wildlife Photographer of the Year, Nature's Best and Travel Photographer of the Year. In 2007, he won the Gold Medal in the Celebrate the Sea competition.

His work takes him to the planet's most fascinating ecosystems: tropical oceans, polar seas, Amazonian rivers. There, he photographs whales, sperm whales, orcas, sharks, anacondas, penguins and other emblematic species of aquatic life. His visual signature is based on expert use of the wide-angle lens, often in natural light, and a precise macro approach that reveals textures, looks and behaviors.

Equipped with the best bodies and waterproof housings, Franco Banfi is renowned for his technical rigor, aesthetic sensitivity and commitment to biodiversity. His powerful, immersive images connect us to the fragile beauty of underwater worlds. He regularly takes part in juries, gives lectures and publishes in leading nature and travel magazines.
