Émile Barbelette is a French naturalist photographer born in Saint-Malo, whose work is rooted in a respectful and attentive observation of living things. For several decades, he has been exploring natural environments with an approach that is both rigorous and sensitive, blending science and visual poetry. While his ties to Brittany are obvious, he has also turned his gaze to other horizons: Spain, Iceland, Canada, Finland... so many territories he has explored to bear witness to the diversity of landscapes and species.
Now settled in the Breton-Vendée marshlands, he devotes much of his work to this singular territory, which he knows intimately. But his work extends far beyond the region's borders: Atlantic dunes, northern tundras, boreal forests... Everywhere, Barbelette adopts the same method - discretion, patience, immersion - to capture animal and plant life in its environment.
He is the author and co-author of several reference works on natural environments, including Dunes d'Armorique and Le Marais breton, produced in collaboration with naturalists. His work, which has been exhibited and published on numerous occasions, is recognized for its ability to combine documentary precision and emotion, without ever giving in to spectacular effect. Émile Barbelette photographs to help us see, understand and respect nature in all its richness and vulnerability.
