Claude Balcaen is a naturalist wildlife photographer specialising in ornithology and wildlife.
Claude Balcaen, a nature photographer specialising in ornithology and wildlife, turned to wildlife photography after a walk in the forest that marked his debut in the field. An experienced amateur, he has long been interested in birds and local wildlife, which he captures without intrusion, favouring patient and contextualised observation.
His images document a variety of species worldwide: temperate zones in France, Mediterranean regions, but also exotic environments such as Tanzania (Serengeti), the Galápagos Islands and India with the Bengal tiger. His iconic subjects include migratory birds (whooper swans), birds of prey (buzzards, herons) and rare species such as Blakiston's fish owl in Japan. He produces precise photographs based on his solid knowledge of nature and carefully prepared hides, ensuring that behaviours and habitats are faithfully reproduced.
An active member of the ASCPF (Association Sportive de Chasse Photographique de France), he holds a position on the board of directors.
