Naturalist photographer and glaciologist Adrien Wehrlé captures the fragile beauty of polar ecosystems.
Adrien Wehrlé is a French naturalist photographer and glaciology researcher with a passion for wide open spaces and fragile ecosystems. A native of Alsace, he discovered wildlife photography at an early age, exploring the forests and wetlands of his region from the age of 14. His sensitive eye and patience in the field soon earned him several awards and an active community around his wilderness images.
Alongside his artistic passion, Adrien pursues a demanding scientific career. As a member of the glaciology and geomorphodynamics group at the University of Zurich, he specializes in the study of ice caps, particularly in Greenland. He works on the interactions between ice, pigmented algae, snow albedo and the effects of climate change, using satellite images and numerical models.
This dual expertise, at the crossroads of science and image, gives his work a unique depth. His photographs, often taken under extreme conditions, bear witness to a deep connection with Arctic and Alpine environments, and seek to raise awareness of climate upheaval.
