Each month, our selection brings together images illustrating biological diversity across different continents and ecosystems. We encounter the African plains, with Burchell's zebra, some of which display pigment abnormalities in their coats similar to melanism, and elephants roaming the arid landscapes of Namibia. Boreal and Arctic environments are represented by musk oxen in snowy expanses, while the temperate forests of Europe are home to red deer herds, little owls, and European otters. Flora is also present, with iconic species such as the flowering pasque flower.
Ornithological diversity plays an important role: great egrets in the wetlands of Europe, Indian tantals observed in colonies, hummingbirds in tropical forests, and birds of prey hunting. Seasonal behaviors are evident in the migration of certain species, the hunting habits of predators, and the formation of social groups. Amphibians and insects complete this panorama with detailed observations on their stages of development, specific habitats, and interactions with the environment.
This October selection highlights the variety of adaptations and lifestyles, from tropical wetlands to polar regions, including European agricultural and forest environments.
