Simon Hardenne

I was born in Antwerp, Belgium, in 1994. I studied photography in Namur.
The hood that was just in front of my house was my childhood playground. I have been passionate with nature at a very early age. Forests and fields were my favorite adventure discovery places, I was going there as possible as I could. My grandfather passed on the video virus to me. At age 13, all my savings went in a small video recorder and I was trying to edit for the first time in my ‘lab’. I was videotaping as often as I breathed. But what I really loved was to capture animals in their environment. That was perfectly combining both of my passions: nature and videos. It was obvious that I would study broadcasting and photography. I quickly had the opportunity to meet people who had the same interests as me, such as Xavier Istasse, a chief cameraman who taught me some professional video basics. My dad’s friend Dimitri Crickillon’s pictures gave me the idea to widen my field from video to photo. But the turning point was when I met Robert Henno, a naturalistic photographer and producer and Jean-Claude Mangeot, Water&Forest engineer, who helped me to fulfill my dreams. I wasn’t walking through the forest by myself anymore, but with the both of them. In 2013, I travelled to Australia and that made the way I see the world totally different. There, working as a cameraman and editor let me buy some cameras that were much more effective. I was spending all my free time shooting nature. New Zealand amazed me with its landscapes and great spaces. Back from the country in May 2014, I’ve since seek to go back there with my cameras!
